Personally i never had any troubles with the poly and unless you did something seriously wrong it should still work. If i were you i'd recheck my wiring (i guess you already did that) and then turn on the poly800 with both knobs set to 12o'clock. You have to keep in mind that the max cutoff and reso levels are set by the value entered into the patch, the knobs will allow you to turn up the resonance/cutoff to that set value (what i am saying is: most of the times you'll want a resonance setting of 13-14 and not 15 because the poly will start to SCREAM and then - here we go- reset itself). they'd flicker and reset to patch1 or turn completely off. Now, the poly800s i modded would reset themselves at high resonance levels. I didnt follow your link, but i take it you performed atom smashers "moog slayer" mod. I have modded 2 poly800s in the past and i think i might know what your problem is. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit. I've used quite some solid core in the past, for on-board (or non moving) connections it's ok, for off-board connections (where movement will likely occur) it will eventually break.Īlso. (anything that's made of a number of tiny strands). It looks in the photos like solid core, (telephone wire and wire wrapping wire are solid core) Solid core is okay for things which will never be worked on again, but the fact that this is a mod, well, that speaks for itself doesn't it? I just don't trust solid core, it could break or go intermittant just in the act of putting the case back together.Įspecially when soldering to PCB pads (even through the hole) use flex. No, shielding isn't the issue, it's whether it's solid core or flex that I'm unsure of. i checked the resistor, it came through at 500ohm what is the prob?, do i need shielding?ģ. yes i did, this is the same wire as used in all the pcb connections. will do, i thought i did, but i will againĢ. Ill check it all out once the temperature in melbourne drops below 40degC.ġ. If it lit up and then died, that seems a likely start. Sounds more like something was undone around the psu, or you shorted +V, therefore blew a fuse. What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. Man, I used to have a Poly800, wish I still did. You didn't bump or change anything near the power connector? Check that connecting your new bits hasn't changed anything here.ĥ. Are you sure of the resistance of the resistor you made? Check it, it should be just around 500R. You didn't use solid core wire did you? Don't.ģ. i feel like i am a little in over my head at the moment now but i would love to learn, and luckily i have lots of time at the moment so where is best to start?Ģ. There are no burnt chips and the components are all looking un-burnt, so does anybody have any guides to help me trouble shoot this problem.

I have now downloaded the korg poly800 schems and was wondering if people could guide me through the job to find out where the problem is. i quickly pulled out the power and opened it up, checked over the board, cleaned all the dust off and checked i put all the connectors back in and plugged it back in again but nothing happened. Once i turned the synth back on none on the lights initially came on, then they flickered for a second and turned off. i checked with a friend who works in synth repair before i did this and he said it should be fine.
HOW TO MAKE A SYNTH PAD ON KORG POLY 800 SERIES
The only difference was that i used a series of 5 100r resistors (heat shrunk together) to build a 500k resistor, whereas the instructions say to use a 470r or 510r resistor. i thought i had completed a really clean job however when i turned it back on there was no responce.
